In 2005, concept of Open Acreage was proposed. Discussions have been held from time to time between DGH , MOPNG and operators to develop a Licensing Policy (OALP or Open Area Licensing Policy).
It is accepted that substantial work needs to be done towards a national and regional database before this concept can be successfully implemented. DGH is spearheading the process for building the same.
It is likely that the NELP & OALP may co-exist for some time.
No schedule has been announced by the Government for the start of bidding under this scheme. AOGO has an expert group, working on this subject and interacting with the Government.
